Three for a girl...

This old
nursery rhyme  came to mind when I saw these Magpies in my garden the other day...

One for Sorrow
Two for joy
Three for a girl
Four for a boy
Five for silver
Six for gold
Seven for a secret never to be told.

I'm not very superstitious but I do believe in Karma,
So I must be a bit lol
Maybe I should be MORE superstitious, maybe it's a sign ;)

I'm still waiting to be a grandma after my son got married a couple of years back,

I've made a baby Quilt, baby Afghan and now this blanket and Teddy,

I Think I'll have to start leaving a few hints here and there
hahaha :)

Whatcha think..will it do the trick :)

This wool is so lovely and soft and cuddly :)

  5. Hiya dearest Summer , I hope I find you well, our weather as always has a mind of its own ...but the sun doth come be it in but spits and spats hahahahaha :))))..And what does dear Summer share with us this day . Aughhhh Pica Pica's the common Magpies Mag from the latin chatters , Pie relating to its colour as in black and white , there being some 20 variables and the Treepie taking it to 21 .A bird the evokes many feelings , thoughts , and superstitions .A very misunderstood bird . A bird that is VERY sociable , it is said by my late mother's people that a faerie lives within every Magpie and whilst not the most affectionate of birds once befriended the Magpie will defend you and yours as though one of its own . And make no mistake about it they are Warriors , highly intelligent , cunning , capable of mimicking any bird call , capable of entrapment ,thieves of pretty things as Jackdaws ( being of the Crow ) and killers , none the less seen by many cultures as good omens , including my own , that was until Christianity put its foot in the door ,it is said the Magpie refused to enter Noah's ark , choosing to jabber on the roof of the Ark as the world drowned and refused to mourn Christ's crucifixion again in its act of none silence . Well Christian's we all don't mourn the same way in our experience of loss .Magpies mate for life when a partner passes over there partner calls out his or her loss , and a funeral is held , even wreaths brought of flowers and grasses , where possible .. TRUE loss is observed , as the surviving partner tries in desperation to raise there lost partner , whilst other attending Magpies offer protection and try to comfort , Elephants are seen to do the same ..what ya think dear Summer are they the living incarnation of the devil himself as the church going religious men of the middle ages would have us believe , of just creatures that show there loss and distress vocally , for in my mind I have no doubt they mourned the loss of the world as they knew it and Christ at his crucifixion..just a couple of examples dearest Summer what you think :))))).. https://youtu.be/60Zg9sGnQf8 https://youtu.be/DkQr_xFqGBg it is said by these men of God that every Magpie carrys a drop of the Devils blood beneath its tongue and that if the creatures tonuge be severed and the blood released the bird would speak as a man ..the poor creatures that suffered this ordeal does not bare thinking about :((((....as for the Poem dearest Summer , it has many variables its self , the One for sorrow is based on a singular Magpie , Jackdaw , crow being seen by your house meaning impending death , the bird Partners loss , till he/she finds a new mate from the mass broods prior to pairing off and that when ever one Magpie be seen bad weather shall occur ..the Two for Joy is based on the fact that when ever you see two Magpies together its always good fine weather ..the rest speak for them selves :)))) the Original poem followed by some of its varients dear Summer .....
    the 1780 version

    One for sorrow,
    Two for mirth,
    Three for a wedding,
    And four for death

    the 1846 version

    One for sorrow,
    Two for luck; (or mirth)
    Three for a wedding,
    Four for death; (or birth)
    Five for silver,
    Six for gold;
    Seven for a secret,
    Not to be told;
    Eight for heaven,
    Nine for hell
And ten for the devil's own sell!( the word sell from the Scottish meaning Self )

    and the Variables

    One for sorrow

    Eleven for health
    Twelve for wealth
Thirteen beware it's the devil himself.

Hahahahahaha OMG there making them up as they go along dear Summer , but the basis of reality is that many old poems / nursery rhymes of this elk stem from life's observations, experiences , and without doubt the daily desires of life ..the fact that the religious applications were in many cases lost along the way from the poems/ nursery rhymes speaks volumes to me ...Dearest Summer , me thinks you have been sent a sign :)))..failing that you could always start leaving knitting patterns for teddies and cot blankets on there bed side tables when they stay over ..bed time reading and all :))) hahahahahaha ..One hopes your wishes come true soon dear lady , One knows the feeling well hahahahahaha as ALWAYS dearest Summer my SINCERE respects Ban :)))))))))))))
